Explore a selection of Mark’s past and current work and collaborations reflecting his lifelong fascination with science, storytelling, and the unknown.
Star Trek: The Next Generation
“Timescape” (S.6, E.25)
Mark’s first TV sale, sadly uncredited but an entertaining sci-fi romp nonetheless: Returning from an away mission in a runabout, Picard, Data, La Forge, and Troi are subject to unsettling temporal anomalies. Upon reaching the Enterprise, they find it suspended in time while in the heat of battle with a Romulan warbird – and milliseconds away from annihilation. Watch
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
“Second Sight” (S.2, E.9)
Mark (credited here as Mark Gehred-O’Connell) wrote the story and co-wrote the script for this Deep Space Nine romance, in which Commander Sisko falls for a mystery “woman in red” who keeps appearing on, and then disappearing from, the space station. Could Sisko’s object of affection be linked in some way to a bombastic visiting scientist testing the infamous “Genesis Device”? Watch
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
“Meridian” (S.3, E.8)
Another romance: this time Jadzia falls in love with a scientist on a planet that shifts between this universe and a plane of pure energy, re-emerging every sixty years. It’s “Brigadoon in outer space,” and the central question is “will she or won’t she?” when the planet inevitably phases out of our universe. This time Mark was given full credit (as Mark Gehred-O’Connell) for the teleplay. Watch
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
“For the Cause” (S.4, E.22)
A test of Commander Sisko’s loyalty, as he discovers that merchant freighter captain Cassidy Yates is smuggling humanitarian supplies from Deep Space Nine to Maquis rebels. Trouble is, Cassidy is Sisko’s significant other and he must bring her to justice. As he struggles with his predicament, the actions of a treasonous Starfleet security officer raise the stakes dramatically. For this episode Mark was given story credit (as Mark Gehred-O’Connell). Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
“Who Mourns For Morn?”
(S.6, E.12)
A rare Star Trek comedy and an enduring fan favorite, “WM4M? was originally pitched by Mark as “Citizen Kane in outer space.” Ever silent barfly Morn dies and bequeaths his estate to best friend Quark. Good news for Quark: Morn was worth a fortune. Bad news for Quark: some nasty aliens want Morn’s treasure for themselves. This time Mark received full teleplay credit (as Mark Gehred-O’Connell).
